Arsenal Season Predictions – Perry, Felegy and Lachlan

Hey guys. Us here at The Arsenal Offside have done a bit of a prediction for the season ahead. It was going to go up last week before the season actually started, but sadly I got distracted and wrote about some guy who decided to do what some little boy told him to and moved to Manchester United. What gives?

So sorry that some of the responses still talk about us still having Song and Van Persie, but I hope you can enjoy it all the same. I will have to try to remember to review our predictions at the end of the season.

Question 1: Will the Top 4 Change?

Lachlan: I would expect Chelsea to make top 4. I really can’t see Tottenham managing to maintain the form that they managed season, and as such I tip Chelsea to slot into their spot.

Perry: I think the top 4 will remain the same but I do feel Arsenal have a strong chance at #2 this year.

Felegy: The top four will change; it will be ManU ManCity Arsenal and Chelsea in some order.

Question 2: Who Will be the League’s Leading Goalscorer?

Lachlan: I’m going to have to go with Rooney here. He is a top striker, playing for one of the top teams, and compared to the City players, he would likely get more game time. Other players could include Aguero or possibly Van Persie again if he can knuckle down for Arsenal or elsewhere.

Perry: Aguero or RVP if he stays with Arsenal.

Felegy: Aguero

Question 3: Which Newcomer Will Have the Biggest Impact on the Premiership?

Lachlan: This is actually a really tough one. In a lot of ways I want to say Hazard. He is clearly a very good player, and he is likely to have plenty of other good players around him. I just have my doubts though (especially after the Community Sheild). There will be so much pressure on him, and he will have a hard time meeting expectations. He will also have lots of good players around him (such as Oscar, Mata, Ramires, possibly Hulk and Moses) who will be ready to take his spot. I am most inclined to say that Kagawa will be the player to watch. He is going to be slotting into a role that United have desperately needed to fill for a long time, and I just feel like he will be have a huge impact on their playing style.

Perry: Cazorla

Felegy: Geez I don’t know…is it wishful thinking to say Cazorla?

Question 4: Who’s Going to Get Relegated?

Lachlan: Southampton, Swansea and West Ham. Its was a tough decision to put Swansea in there, but they have seen quite a few top players leave, and may struggle without Rodgers. I would also love to see West Ham relegated again.

Perry: Aston Villa, QPR and West Bromwich Albion

Felegy: Reading, Southampton, West Brom (blind guess)

Question 5: Who’s Going to Win the League?

Lachlan:Manchester United. At the moment, Manchester City haven’t made any additions that will contribute too much to their campaign, so I think they will be about the same as last season. On the other hand, United will have Vidic back, which will make a huge contribution, and they have also brought in Kagawa. They have a young squad, many of whom may really step up this season. If they bring in Baines as well (I doubt they will) then they will be even harder to beat.

Perry: City, unless we keep Van Persie, in which case I think we should be a real contender.

Felegy: Manchester City again sadly.

Question 6: Who’s Going to Win the Champions League?

Lachlan:I think it will be hard to go past Madrid. They have the best team in the world at the moment, and if anything it will only get better this season. On the other hand, Barcelona don’t look like they will get any better (except maybe that Villa will return). City have the team sheet to do it as well I think, but I think Mancini is a moron and he won’t be able to handle them again this season.

Perry: Real Madrid

Felegy: Real Madrid

Question 7: If You Had to Give Arsenal’s Offseason a Grade, What Would it Be?

Lachlan: This one could have a blog all by itself for me. I’ll keep it short though, maybe I’ll write about this once the window closes. I think we have done really well this window, and as such I will give us an A-. We have gone about our business relatively quickly, and when we sensed blood in the water at Malaga, we finally managed to pull Cazorla in. Sales of Van Persie and Song without replacements will really frustrate me though and probably lower the grade quite a lot.

Perry: B+ (easily raised to an A- if we could add another RB or LB)

Felegy: B+

Question 8: Which Newcomer Will Make the Biggest Impact for Arsenal This Season?

Lachlan: It has to be Cazorla really. He is a player we needed pretty badly, and I think he will be able to effectively lead our team in attack very well. He can also score on free kicks, something that we don’t really seem to do enough, and I feel like the poor teams are scoring these against us way too often.

Perry:A tie between Cazorla and Giroud

Felegy: Uhh…since I said him for # 3 I am going to say Cazorla

Question 9: Should Arsenal transfer in another player? Who?

Lachlan: This is a tough one. It looks like Song is going to be heading off sooner rather than later, but I’m not too fussed about that directly, so long as he is replaced to some extent. If we manage to pull in Sahin, even if just for a season, then I would be quite happy with that. But without Song having moved on, I would like to see us bring in a right back. I’m not convinced that Jenkinson is quite up to standard yet, and he could do with a loan, and with Sagna out for a while and increasing injury concern, it might be worth bringing in a reasonable quality player.

Perry: Yes, I would definitely like us to finish the loan deal for Sahin and would like us to target another defender. I’m worried about Sagna a bit. I think the time is right for a move on Gregory Van Der Wiel. He’s a little overrated, but I think he’d do a fine job.

Felegy: Not especially, but if they did I would like to see another CDM to support Song

Question 10: Who Will Be Arsenal’s Biggest Disappointment?

Lachlan: If I’m going to be honest, I think it will be Podolski. He is a highly rated player, and although he has proven himself to a large extent, I think many of us thinks that he is better than he is. Much like Walcott, I think he will have very high expectations placed upon him and it will be hard for him to live up to these. He will probably be a good player, but just not a great one. I hope I am wrong though!

Perry: Ramsey.

Felegy: I hate to say this but it’s going to be Jack Wilshere. The expectations on him are going to be way too high considering how long he has been out.

Question 11: Who Will Be Arsenal’s Most Pleasant Surprise?

Lachlan: I think I will go with Gervinho here. If he can build up a bit of confidence he can be a really valuable player who should be able to score and create lots of goals for us. Diaby deserves an honourable mention though.

Perry: Gibbs. I think this might be the year he shows more consistency.

Felegy: Giroud. I am not sure why people are not more excited about this guy. He is exactly the type of striker that we have been lacking for years.

Question 12: Who Will Be Arsenal’s Player of the Season?

Lachlan: It’s hard to go past Cazorla, but I think I will have to say Koscielny. The guy is rock solid, and if we can get a consistent back four running through this season I can see us improving our defensive record, and he will play a leading role in that. Cazorla might be another player in contention.

Perry: RVP if he stays, otherwise Cazorla.

Felegy: Arteta? I honestly hope there is not one big standout but instead a strong team with options coming from all over the place.

Question 13: Come January, what Will be the Biggest Story Everyone is Talking About?

Lachlan: Does Robin Van Persie regret his decision? If he doesn’t by then, I’m sure he will. I am assuming he does leave of course.

Perry: Come January, what will be the biggest story everyone is talking about? If RVP remains a Gunner until that point in time, the gossip mill will churn up yet again with stories of where he’ll be sold. Along with that, I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised that Arsenal will be in the running for the league and there will be stories about a transfer to help us in the run in.

Felegy: Will RvP finish out the season with Arsenal or be sold in the window ?

Question 14: Will Arsenal Stick with the 4-3-3?

Lachlan: I doubt it. We have the personnel to mix it up a lot more this season, and I’m sure the boss will spend a bit of time playing around with it.

Perry:Perry: It’s possible, I believe that is the formation Wenger implemented against Koln, but I do think we may use the 4-4-2-2.

Felegy: No. Too many changes in personnel to stick with the same system and formation.

Question 15: Final Prediction Time: Will Arsenal Win a Trophy this Season?

Lachlan: Sadly, I don’t think we will. The domestic cups are a chance I guess, but I just can’t see that our chances are too high to be honest. I guess our second string is decent, so we should be able to make decent runs in the cups. I think we will be lucky to top the Manchester clubs this season in the league, however.

Perry: FA Cup is to be had and I think we have a fighting’s chance for the league if we can remain healthy and RVP stays. Both being BIG IFs.

Felegy: Yes. FA Cup here we come!!
